The Center for Public History at the University of Houston has been the focal point for the study of the greater Houston area's history for more than twenty years. The Houston History Project is designed to expand and improve this research on Houston's history and also to serve as a learning laboratory for public history students. There are three key components of the Houston History Project: (1) The Oral History of Houston; (2) The Houston History Magazine; and (3) The Houston History Archive. Research generated through the Houston History Project, including issues of The Houston Review, oral history transcripts and archival materials, is then made available to those interested in the region including teachers in public schools; public school, university, and community college students; amateur historians; the business, medical, and legal communities; and a broad range of other interested Houstonians.
