

The University of
Admission into the graduate program in History requires application forms for both the University and the Department. All students seeking admission into the graduate program in History must complete an application from the University Office of Admissions and submit additional application materials through the department of History. Please see the "Procedures for Applying for Admission" link below or contact the graduate advising assistant for further information on this process.
The University of Houston offers two fellowships that are only available to MA students in public history. The first, the Hamill Fellowship in Public History, is intended to support graduate student advancement in the field of public history through participation in the editing and production of The Houston Review of History and Culture, a magazine of popular history published by the Center for Public History at University of Houston. The Hamill Fellowship includes full remission of tuition and a monthly stipend for the 2006-07 academic year. The award is renewable. The Jones Fellowship in Public History is intended to support graduate student advancement in the field of public history through participation in the Oral History of Houston Project. The Jones Fellowship also includes full remission of tuition and a monthly stipend for the 2006-07 academic year. The recipient will work on the Oral History of Houston Project, which is designed to identify and interview important and interesting individuals in the greater Houston area. The award is renewable. The University of Houston offers other loans, tuition-remission scholarships, and fellowships covering living expenses. Students in the public history program may compete for those with other students in the history graduate program. The Department of History has a number of competitive teaching and research assistantships and grants. Murray A. Miller Graduate Scholarships in History are one- and two-year scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 to be awarded to superior incoming graduate students. The Stella Ehhardt Memorial Fellowships and the Cullen Graduate Scholarships are available for outstanding students who will begin their graduate studies at UH in the fall term. Also, public history students have opportunities for financial support through internships and through contract research projects.
