Dr. Xiaoping Cong Receives Two Research Awards

Dr. Xiaoping Cong of the University of Houston History Department has received two major research awards to support work on her newest book project, "Law, Marriage and Gender Construction in Communist China, 1940-1960." The first award is a research ACLS grant from the American Research in Humanities in China program (ARHC). This program is administrated by American Council of Learned Societies and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Additionally, Dr. Xiaoping Cong has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to do research at Shaanxi Normal University in Xi'an, China during the 2008-2009 academic year, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Dr. Cong is one of approximately 800 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright Scholar Program.
The History Department faculty congratulate her on these grants.
